There is only one real and true answer to this question: living through experiences one manifests.
Without the initiative and willingness to put oneself out there to live, there is really nothing to paint about. For me, artistic inspiration comes primarily from living, experiencing, observing and interacting with the world around me. Art creation comes from extended time in solitude, but the inspiration for it and the life content one needs to produce it comes from experience.
An artist must live through something, observe people socially, interact, converse, make new relationships, and connect with the wider society. Otherwise, an artist fails to deliver a message that will be heard by other people, and is solely isolated to the artist.
People as a Source of Artistic Inspiration
Perhaps the greatest source of inspiration is people, as each reveals something unique about life. By moving through culturally rich environments, I get to experience a lot of different perspectives and points of view, which one wouldn't have been able to know without socialising.
People also produce other works of art, and we get influenced by architecture, design, and what we see around us as well. It can be a specific colour, a shape, or how a tree is rooted in the ground.
Nature and the Environment
Which leads me to the next biggest source: nature.
Nature influences an artist more than one is able to be conscious of, as everything is influenced by it. The colours, shapes, structures and movements found in nature can become part of an artist's visual language, sometimes without the artist consciously realising it.
Personal Experiences and Life
In my own artistic journey, the most significant pieces were made when I was being very social, living life to the fullest, or being in love. So all of this, including working with clients, travelling, and just daily interaction, fuels the artistic process, and without that, there really wouldn't be any fuel to create.
We create to express what we experienced, absorbed, and lived through various mediums. Mine is painting, so naturally I will use colours, shapes, symbols, and movements in my paintings to abstract those periods.
